James Dondero is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, where he earned two bachelors of science degrees in Accounting and Finance. James Dondero is a man who has made his mark in the credit markets. James managed to turn a company still in its conceptual stage, into a $2 billion dollar enterprise. James Dondero resides in Dallas but still manages offices in Seoul, Singapore and New York from his local headquarters. Apart from the dedication to his career, James Dondero is an active citizen with charitable tendencies.
In 2001, “Papa” the hippo, died. The Dallas Zoo had no feasible alternative but to close its hippo habitat. Highland to Capital Management donated $1 million to the zoo to help bring the hippos back. One of James dream pursuits’ is philanthropy. He managed to build a working relationship with Mary Jalonick, CEO of the Dallas Foundation. This relationship has led Dondero to add millions of dollars to his funds for charitable causes. Together they created the “Highland Dallas Foundation Inc.” This foundation serves veterans, schools and other organizations. James took his charitable pursuits one step further and hired Linda Owen, former CEO of Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation. One of their larger endeavors include “The Family Place” which is a refuge for men that are victimized by domestic violence. This shelter received a 1 million dollar grant.
